Today, SAPES consists of scholars from various disciplinary backgrounds who meet annually to discuss issues related to the philosophy of education and other foundational concerns.
Included are philosophers, historians, sociologists and anthropologists of education as well as others whose work illuminates the relationship between schools and wider society.
Past meetings were devoted to such topics as Politics and the Future of Academic Freedom, Building Bridges, Education and the Market Ideology and War, Terror, Violence and the Responsibility of Educators.

The 57th Annual Meeting of the South Atlantic Philosophy of Education Society (SAPES) will be held at Appalachian State University's Reich College of Education in Boone, NC on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12 - Oct. 13, 2012.
