Today, SAPES consists of scholars from various disciplinary backgrounds who meet annually to discuss issues related to the philosophy of education and other foundational concerns.
Included are philosophers, historians, sociologists and anthropologists of education as well as others whose work illuminates the relationship between schools and wider society.
Past meetings were devoted to such topics as Politics and the Future of Academic Freedom, Building Bridges, Education and the Market Ideology and War, Terror, Violence and the Responsibility of Educators.
CALL FOR PAPERS
The 56th Annual Meeting of the South Atlantic Philosophy of Education Society (SAPES) will be held at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Education in Richmond, VA on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30 - Oct. 1, 2011.

CONFERENCE INFORMATION
- Registration fees: $50 for Faculty, $30 for students.
- Registration will take place at the SAPES meeting on Friday, September 30, 2011. This price includes membership in the SAPES organization, a copy of the SAPES yearbook, hors d'oeuvres at Friday's reception and breakfast on Saturday.
